Jetty Redevelopment

A GLYC sub-committee is currently working with Gippsland Ports and the East Gippsland Shire to develop a plan to replace the ageing jettys adjacent to the clubhouse in McMillan Strait. The object is to provide more permanent and casual berths and better serve the ongoing needs of the Club.

The plan on the left shows the latest proposal which would see the existing Grassy Point jetty replaced by a substantial breakwater with extra transient berths on the inside, and a floating jetty for Sailability purposes on the outside. (Note: The Sailability jetty has since been moved in several metres to provide better shelter from traffic in the Strait).

This proposal also moves the two outer jetties out 35m from the shore in order to locate an additional 14 permanent head to jetty pens on their inner side. This reduces the navigable width of the channel (at 2m depth) to 90m at the northern end.
